Lake Forest Greek Revival

Project Muse

When this return client came to us with her new home she knew she had to have one thing: vibrant blue walls. We laugh a lot in our office that we aren’t exactly your white and blue designer but in this case we had a love affair with Farrow & Ball Cook’s blue. The rich French blue was so vibrant and soothing at the same time, a coat of lacquer seemed to be the only thing this room needed. Yet most know that we, of course, couldn’t stop there. We doubled down with an equally vibrant blue velvet sofa trimmed in a sumptuous floral trim, covered the windows in Schumacher’s Thistle fabric which brought in the subtlest pop of blush, a grass green and, of course, our vibrant French blue. We carried the blush onto the game chairs in another Schumacher chevron velvet. Antique bergere lounge chairs in a camel leather and a woven seagrass rug by Chairish provided the perfect “off" colors to balance the bright scheme. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Sarah Vaile Design project without a touch of leopard on custom tasseled slipper chairs.

Noteworthy Moment

We had suggested to our client early to add two chandeliers over their expansive living room to both light and unify the sitting room and piano area. Our clients were hesitant to tear open their vintage plaster ceilings and discover what lay waiting in there when there was already sufficient light throughout on the walls. Yet we regularly nudged them to add the lights and eventually they did. We all agree that the chandeliers are the perfect touch to anchor the room.
